Indication
Clomifene Citrate is indicated for the treatment of infertility in women with amenorrhea, Stein-Leventhal syndrome, or functional uterine bleeding, where the problem lies in little ovulation occurring. Clomifene Citrate is also indicated to stimulate sperm production in male infertility caused by oligospemia.
Composition
Each tablet contains:
Clomifene Citrate 50 mg

Dose
Anovulatory Infertility (Female):
- Initial dose: 1 tablet/day x 5 days, starting on day 5 of the menstrual cycle (or at any time if amenorrhea)
- Ovulation: occurs 6-10 days after the last dose
- If ovulation fails: increase to 1 tablet 2x/day x 5 days
- Therapy limits: max 6 cycles, after that success is low
Oligospermia (Men):
- Dosage: 1 tablet/day x 40-90 days
- Response: an increase in sperm count is detected within 4-5 weeks
- Initial dose: 1 tablet/day x 5 days, starting on day 5 of the menstrual cycle (or at any time if amenorrhea)
- Ovulation: occurs 6-10 days after the last dose
- If ovulation fails: increase to 1 tablet 2x/day x 5 days
- Therapy limits: max 6 cycles, after that success is low
Oligospermia (Men):
- Dosage: 1 tablet/day x 40-90 days
- Response: an increase in sperm count is detected within 4-5 weeks
Attention
- Accurate gynecological and obstetric examination must be performed in selecting appropriate candidates for therapy with Clomifene Citrate. Patients should be warned of the possibility of multiple pregnancies. They should also be warned about the possible side effect of blurred vision and should be advised to stop treatment and immediately report to their respective doctors if any visual disturbances occur.
- Excessive enlargement of the ovaries and formation of ovarian cysts is a common form that occurs if a dose of 100 mg - 200 mg per day is given for 2 - 3 weeks. However, this side effect can be reduced by reducing the therapeutic dose to 50 mg per day without significantly affecting the effectiveness of therapy. Other side effects include hot flashes, digestive tract complaints, redness of the skin can sometimes occur in sensitive individuals. Blurred vision, headaches, and insomnia have also been reported in some cases.
